Let’s talk about legacy. Whether you are still early in your career, or perhaps in the middle, or nearer to the end, or even as a retiree, reflecting on legacy matters.
Legacy is not about an ego trip, rather, it’s a question for each of us to consider. It’s about who we are and who we want to be. Do you have a sense of whether you are or did make a difference at work, in your community, or in your family?
It’s typical for those toward the end of their career or as a retiree to look back and ask “how did my work, my relationships with others, and my ideas for change and improvement make a difference?
At work, today, everyone is trying to be successful and enjoy what we’re doing with the obvious intent of supporting ourselves and our families in a safe and satisfying way. There’s a legacy in that, of course. But I’m suggesting we take a moment and think about the larger questions.
Is our work contributing positively to the success of our organization? Are we serving others in a way that makes a positive difference? And, is there time to still make more significant contributions?
